Scrap Magic…Bicycle Butterfly!

Hello Inky People!

How about a bit of Scrap Magic?

This card might make you think twice about what you throw away!

Scrap Magic…Bicycle Butterfly!

Bicycle Butterfly!

Here’s a card that is made totally (well, almost) from the scrap pile.

Every piece of this card, except the card base, is a leftover from another project or an idea that didn’t quite come together. The black background piece, cut with the Top Note Bigz Die, had a crease, and a bit of a tear in it that is easily hidden under a few layers.  For the middle layer, you’ll need some of SU Many Marvelous Markers, a Stampin’ Spritzer, and a clear mount block. The butterfly is cut with the Butterflies Thinlits Dies (page 26 of the Occasions Catalog), these thinlits are a crowd favorite!  The fun little bicycle wheel behind the butterfly comes from the Postage Due stamp…it’s embossed in gold on Basic Black card stock. The embossing came out missing a few spots (it happens), that part was cut off, and what was left seems to fit perfectly between the wings!

To get a background similar to the one on this card, get out a clear block and a few markers ( maybe three) in the colors you want to use, and have a spritzer filled with water and ready to go. Swipe the markers across the clear block from light to dark, taking about one third of the block for each color.  Mist the block with water, don’t over saturate it, just enough to see bubbles form on the block.  Press the block down onto your paper and hold it there for a few seconds so that the water can absorb into the paper.

As you probably noticed, the background here is not full of color. I did not have enough water on the block so the colors did not blend well, (that’s why it was in the scrap pile). Each background you make will come out different depending on the color, type of paper and the amount of water you use.  That’s part of the fun with this technique…they are all different!

FYI: I was hoping to make a great little tutorial for the faux watercolor technique, but some of the stamps that will be retiring soon are used on this card, so I figured I needed to get in gear and post this before they are no longer available!  Yikes!

The Top Note Bigz Die, along with the Postage Due Stamp Set will be retiring when the new Annual Catalog comes out on June 2nd. Everything on the retiring list is only available while supplies last…so get yours ASAP!  To view the entire list of what’s retiring, click here.

Enjoy…Karen
