The Stamp Review Crew: Labeler Alphabet

The Stamp Review Crew: Labeler Alphabet

Welcome to the Stamp Review Crew Blog Hop!  Today’s hop features the Labeler Alphabet stamp set. Using an alphabet stamp set by itself can be a challenge, so they are often used in combination with other stamps, like my project today.

If you are new to the crew… here’s a little info…
This is an international group of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators that gets together on the first and third Mondays of every month to do a blog hop. Each hop will focus on a single stamp set, giving you oodles of ideas and inspiration for that set!  No matter where you join in, just follow along until you’ve seen all the blogs. If you get lost along the way you can always click on the banner above to see the master list for this hop and catch up there!

The Stamp Review Crew: Labeler Alphabet Stampin' Up!. Black daisy with Berry Burst watercolor. Inker's Workshop 2017******************
I sort of went for the “bold is better” concept here, or at least that’s where it ended up! To get that strong color for the background, I used the new In Color ,Berry Burst, and it really makes those letters POP!

To get a similar look, use an Aqua painter to swoosh a small amount of water onto a piece of Shimmery White card stock. Grab some ink from the lid of your ink pad, and add your color of choice. Remember, the more ink you use, the deeper the color and the more water you use, the softer the color.  If you need to…let the first layer dry, and add more ink or water to get the look you’re after. I think the hardest part is learning to control the amount of water you use…so, it’s practice, practice, practice!

Labeler Alphabet With Black Daisy. Stamp Review Crew Hop June 2017. Inker's Workshop 2017

I actually made two samples of the same card today. This was the first version, but I felt that the black daisy took center stage, and I wanted those letters to really stand out, this hop is about the Labeler Alphabet…right!  So, I figured adding some color behind them would do the trick…and  whoa, did it ever!

Also, in the background is the ink blot from the Happy Celebrations set…stamped in black, and the splatter from the Timeless Textures stamp set, heat embossed in gold. When I started, I thought the black daisy would be strong enough to show up against the black ink blot, but they sort of blend together, so the gold splatter and the metallic thread help define the two.

It’s hard to capture the glimmer of the new Faceted Gems, but they are fantastic…what a fun way to add bling to your project!  You can find these cuties on page 197 of the new Annual Catalog.
******************************

Stamped Labeler Alphabet. Inker's Workshop 2017.

Does using the Labeler Alphabet make you uneasy?   Here’s a little tip that may help you…rather than stamping the letters individually, ink/stamp the entire sheet of the Labeler Alphabet all at once! That’s right, the entire thing!  By doing this, you can cut them apart (or use a small punch) to make your words…which also makes twisting and turning your letters a breeze.  It might not work for every project, but it may make a few of them easier!  Be sure to ink up your alphabet better than I did. LOL!

Enjoy!
Karen

Colorful Seasons Distressed Leaf Card. Stamp Review Crew hop. Inker's Workshop 2017

**************************
I am so easily sidetracked!  Sometimes when I have an idea for a project, I get distracted along the way and I never end up where I intended to go in the first place! Sound familiar to any of you?

Such is the case with today’s project, my plan was a nice clean card, but once I stamped the leaf and it came out, shall we say… less than perfect , it became all about the distressed look!  Maybe
my subconscious led the way, I have been wanting to play with the cardboard box from my last order!

Since I didn’t get a good solid image of my leaf, out came the Seasonal Layers Thinlits and the Gold Foil Sheets. I cut and layered a gold leaf over the top of the offending image and ta dah, I’m off in a different direction!

Colorful Seasons Distressed Leaf Card. Stamp Review Crew hop. detail leaf and gesso. Inker's Workshop 2017

I tore off the flap of the Stampin’ Up! box and cut a square larger than the leaf so I could tear the edges. I was just going to use white ink on the front, but I had some old gesso begging to be used up, so I went with that, and I just used my fingers to spread it around (messy, but fun!) I am happy to say that Stampin’ Up! has some Embossing Paste available in the new Annual Catalog, I can’t wait to get my hands on that! It should be thicker than the gesso, which means better coverage and great for stenciling!  I used a Sponge Dauber to ink the edges in Crumb Cake and Early Espresso, then wrapped Metallic Thread around the cardboard before layering it onto a small piece of Gold Foil, and of course, I topped it off with a sparkly little rhinestone!

Psst…the ink splatter you see in the background is from the Timeless Textures stamp set, I couldn’t help myself, it was the perfect finishing touch!

Thanks for hopping today!  The next stop is Rochelle Blok, I can’t wait to see what she has to share!

Berry Burst Watercolor & New Annual Catalog!

Penned In Lemon Lime!

Hey Inker’s…I can’t seem to get enough of this color right now! Lemon Lime Twist is one of five new In Colors coming out on June 1st, and if you like colors that make your projects POP, you’re gonna love this one!

Penned In Lemon Lime! New In=Color Lemon Lime Twist, and new stamp set Crafting Forever! Inker's Workshop 2017
What do you think?  Too bright, maybe a little out of your comfort zone?

If you’re thinking, whoa…neon green, you’re pretty close, but you can tone it down by using it with neutrals or by using it in small amounts as an accent. Go ahead, try it!

You have probably seen a few cards with my name on them floating around out there using this bold, new color (I’m loving it!), and I couldn’t resist sharing another one (hmm…should I stop now?) There’s still a few weeks before the new catty goes live, so here’s another sneak peek of Lemon Lime Twist, this time with the pens from the new Crafting Forever stamp set…gotta love it!
******************

• I used the large Definitely Dahlia stamp in the same color for added texture in the background!
****************

Penned In Lemon Lime! Detail pens from the Crafting Forever stamp set. Inker's Workshop 2017
• New In Color Stampin’ Write Markers were used to color the pens.
• Accents of Basic Black were used on the pens, for the greeting (Balloon Celebration),
*and layered in between. Don’t these two colors make a fantastic color combination?!
• New 1/2″ Finely Woven Ribbon matches the card stock …to a tee!
• Of course, I added a single rhinestone for a bit of sparkle on the pen, I know…I can’t seem to   **make a card without one!

Will Lemon Lime Twist be your new favorite?

Have A Fabulous Day!

Penned In Lemon Lime!

Layers Of Blue!

Welcome to the Pals Blog Hop for May 2017. We are thankful you stopped by to take a look at our 2017 Blog Hop monthly themes. This month we are featuring projects that are “stepped up” by using textures or fun techniques. We hope to provide you with lots of ideas and that you enjoy our creations.

You may just be starting the Blog Hop or may have come from the previous link from the Line-up on the Pals Blog Hop listing shown below.  The full lineup will help you move along from blog to blog so you may see all the projects
****************************

Hello Inkers!
My texture project for today’s hop includes several lovely Layers Of Blue!

Layers Of Blue! Inker's Workshop - Pals Blog Hop May 2017

Today’s project is made entirely of Dapper Denim & Whisper White!

One of the reasons I chose Dapper Denim is so I could use this great scrunchy ribbon
one last time, sadly it retires at the end of May.
*******************************

Layers Of Blue! Inker's Workshop 2017 texture details

Did you count the layers?
***********

There are eight layers to this card, that may seem like a lot, but each one is in small doses,
so it doesn’t look too heavy when put together. If each layer were large in size, it would
tend to be overwhelming.
***************

Let’s start from the bottom, shall we…
• 1st layer, card base (of course), is Whisper White Thick card stock.
• 2nd layer, is the blue brick. using the Brick Wall embossing folder, edges torn.
• 3rd layer, a piece of 3″ x 4 1/2″ stamped with the largest splatter from the
Touches Of Texture stamp set, in Dapper Denim, of course.
• 4th layer, the long background stamp from the same set, with torn, inked edges.
I forgot to get a pic while adding layers (oops!) but, if you look closely under the doily, you
can see the edges peeking out.
• 5th layer, doily with edge cut off, sponged with ink.
• 6th layer, banner stamped with greeting from the Teeny Tiny Wishes stamp set, edges inked.
• 7th layer, stamped flower from Touches Of Texture stamp set, cut out with Stitched Shapes
Framelits Dies, popped up with Stampin’ Dimensionals (my fav!), and a small rhinestone for a touch of bling!
• 8th and final layer, Dapper Denim 3/8″ Ruched Ribbon, tied in a knot.
*************

Layers Of Blue! Inker's Workshop 2017. Blue brick background.

The brick looked a little …well, blah…so I added a few smears of  white Craft Stampin’ Ink
around the edges and grout lines, with a Sponge Dauber, and that pulled it in perfectly!.
**********

A little ink on the envelope flap is always a good thing!

 Eastern Palace Suite…Another Sneak Peek!

New! Eastern Palace Suite…Simple Sneak Peek!

Hey everyone…starting on May 1st, you can get your hands on the new Eastern Palace Suite!
So, today I am sharing a simple sneak peek to give you an idea of what’s to come!

Eastern Palace Suite,,,Simple Sneak Peek! Tranquil Tide with stickers. Inker's Workshop 2017What do you think of this new In Color?

I will have more than one sneak peek to share with all of you this week, so be watching for them!

For today’s project I used one of the new In Colors…Tranquil Tide, it’s a deep rich tone that goes great with anything gold!  I also used the new THICK Very Vanilla card stock, something I have been hoping for since the day Stampin’ Up! introduced the Whisper White Thick!  It is fantastic for card bases and die cuts as well, and it can stand up to much more layering or texture than the original Very Vanilla card stock.  For me, this is exciting stuff!!

Eastern Palace Suite...Simple Sneak Peek! detail stickers Inker's Workshop 2017There are stickers, people!

One of the really fun (and unexpected) things in the bundle are the Eastern Gold Vinyl Stickers.
I am freaking out over these babies!  I  haven’t used stickers in ages, and I forgot how much fun it is to just peel & stick! These are good quality stickers with plenty on each sheet,  well worth the money, and they match up with some of the Thinlits too… so cool!

I have to tell you, this is not my usual color palette, so I was really taking a chance on buying this bundle. Two things swayed me, the new In Color, Fresh Fig (I was hoping for something like Blackberry Bliss, which is near and dear to my heart!) and the Thinlits…they were just too much for me to pass up. So, I left my comfort zone, put in my order, and waited.

Was it worth the wait?  Heck Yeah… I have had a blast with this bundle!  Even though Fresh Fig turned out to be a little more muted than I had hoped, it’s a pretty color, and I quite like it.  The two wow factors (for me) turned out to be the Eastern Medallion Thinlits, which have just oodles of possibilities (I can hardly stand it), and one I didn’t expect, the Lemon Lime Twist ink!  It’s bright and bold like a green apple, and there’s paper in the pack that had me practically jumping up and down when I pared it with black…more on that later.

As a demonstrator we get to purchase limited items from the new Annual Catalog ahead of the public, that gives us time to make a samples for everyone to see and get the word out. Several weeks ago, Stampin’ Up! offered demonstrators the opportunity to purchase new items from the upcoming catalog (in the form of bundles) even earlier than normal, and what’s more exciting is that they are opening up that offer to customers early too!  That means you can get some of these great products that will be available in the new 2017-2018 Annual Stampin’ Up! catalog a full month before the new catty goes live!!!

Click on the banner above to see the bundles!

New! Eastern Palace Suite…Simple Sneak Peek!

Butterfly Bling Card #GDP083

Good Morning, Stampers!   Today’s project is brought to you by…me!  Hahaha!
I think the coffee is kicking in!  Anyway, today I have a Butterfly Bling Card to
share, it’s for this week’s Global Design Project challenge.

Butterfly Bling Card #GDP083

You probably know by now that I love my stash, and I keep a box of paper
scraps right next to my work table.  Can you guess where this is going?

Butterfly Bling #GDP083 scrap of dry embossed paper with antennae. Inker's Workshop 2017

Yep! A big part of today’s project is from the stash, and the scrap box!
This section was torn off a larger embossed piece, but when I started
looking at it, I noticed those antennae, and thought hmm…I could make
them work for me, so I outlined them in Basic Black ink.

Butterfly Bling #GDP083 showing butterfly on antennae. Inker's Workshop 2017

I used them as a background layer, and ta-da… I have antennae for this butterfly!

Be sure to check out all the designs over at the GDP !  There are always
some great ideas and inspiration there!  Just click on the globe above and
it will take you there.

Now, more butterfly stuff.

Butterfly Bling #GDP083 side view. Inker's Workshop 2017.
**************************************************************************************************************

Did you notice?  This butterfly has three layers!

All three layers came from the “stash”. The base is made from Gold Foil Sheets
using the Bold Butterfly Framelits, the middle is cut out in Basic Black using the
Butterflies Thinlets Dies, and the top layer (Bold Butterfly Framelits) is Fabulous
Foil Designer Acetate, it’s gold on one side, and silver on the reverse, twice the fun!
There are glue dots down the center under the rhinestones to hold the piece together,
the wings are free floating, but the acetate does not bend well, so the layers are not
as noticeable as I would have liked.  Maybe scoring the acetate first would help?
Always learning.

After adding the layers to the card base, the background really disappeared, normally
that would be okay, but I wanted a hint of these little guys to show up, so I used a
Sponge Dauber, with some Crumb Cake ink and carefully tried to add a bit of color
to the background after it was all put together. I think it helps give the antennae a
better place to live, don’t you?

I also added a few sprigs of greenery for a finishing touch, I found these little cuties
in the Jar Of Love stamp set!  Who knew?

Have A Fabulous Day!
Karen
**************************************

Oh, I almost forgot, the Very Vanilla used for the base is thick card stock!
It will be available in the new catty…Yippee!  Since it’s not available to the
public yet, it’s not included in the supply list below.

Butterfly Bling Card #GDP083

Goodbye Gorgeous Grunge!

Hey Inker’s…many of my favs are on the retirement list…EEEK!!
For me, it will be hard to say Goodbye Gorgeous Grunge!

What’s on your list?

Goodbye Gorgeous Grunge! card using retiring sets. Inker's Workshop 2017

This card has more than one item on it that’s retiring.  Besides the Gorgeous
Grunge stamp set (#130514), the Kraft 12 X 12 card stock (#133674), the
Special Reason set (#142902), and the Stylish Stems Framelits Dies (#142750)
are retiring. The retirement list is long, but items will go fast, so be sure to check
it out the entire list below, you don’t want to miss out!

Goodbye Gorgeous Grunge! Angel view. Inker's Workshop 2017

An angled view of the card shows the layers, the bottom and top layers are popped
up with Stampin’ Dimensionals. You can also see that my flower went crooked…oops!
I was a bit too generous with the glue when I added the framelit, and my flower did the
slip & slide!  Let that be a lesson, more is not always better when it comes to glue!  I
left it to dry, and when I checked on it, boom..there it was…already dry. So, crooked
or not, it’s on the card…it only adds to it’s charm 🙂

Don’t Miss Out !!!

Retiring Products. Inker's Workshop 2017Click on the banner above to see everything that’s going away!
Remember, there’s a limited time to get these goodies, and it’s only while supplies last!

Until next time…
Karen

Goodbye Gorgeous Grunge!

Three Inky Backgrounds!

Good Morning, stampers…
take a look at these three inky backgrounds!

Threee Inky Backgrounds! Inker's Workshop 2017

Each one is mounted on their respective colors, and they all came from
my stash! That means that most of the work was already done, all they
needed was a greeting…don’t ya just love it when that happens?

After I cut them all the same size, I added the gold “hello” greeting to
each one to make them a set. They are both inky, and simple at the
same time, my friend is gonna love these!

Three Inky Backgrounds! Pink and yellow hello. Inker's Workshop 2017

This background is a combo of Melon Mambo and Crushed Curry.
It was made using the Acrylic Block Technique, at least that’s what
we are calling it here, because I don’t know the name of it. I even
looked on Pinterest and, this is the best guess I came up with. Ink
is added to a clear block, either with ink refills or markers, it’s
spritzed with water and then pressed onto watercolor paper.

I added even more water after I lifted the block, but you can still see
the line of pink where the ink puddled on the edge of the block.

Three Inky Backgrounds! Mix of Elegant Eggplant & NIght Of Navy inks. Inker's Workshop 2017

This one is a mix of Elegant Eggplant and Night Of Navy ink on
watercolor paper, and it’s mounted on Elegant Eggplant.

Ink that was left over from another project was spritzed with
water on the mat and the paper was put face down on it. I let
it run and puddle, then, once it was dry, I flicked water on it
again to get even more movement.

Three Inky Backgrounds! Rich Razzleberry Ombre Ink Pad. Inker's Workshop 2017

Have you seen the Ombre Stampin’ Pads?

They are on page 180 of the Annual Catalog. If you have one, you
can make this quick and easy background!  Just open up the ink
pad and swipe it across some Shimmery White Card Stock and,
give it a quick spritz of water…dab off the excess, and that’s it!

What do you think of these three inky backgrounds?
Ready to make some of your own?

Until next time…
Karen

Three Inky Backgrounds!

OOPS!   I forgot to add the Shimmery White card
Stock to the supply list.  It’s on page 175 of the
Annual Catalog…item #101910.  Squirrel!

It’s Your Birthday!

What a great way to say…It’s your birthday!… masculine style.

It's Your Birthday! Masculine birthday card from Inker's Workshop

Very Vanilla, and Basic Black make such a great, simple combo!

This card is completely neutral, with a masculine or almost an old
fashioned feel to it but, for a different look, add a pop of color or, use
the same design and, simply switch out colors…both would be great
ways to say It’s Your Birthday to someone, masculine or not!

It's Your Birthday! Masculine birthday card with balloons from Inker's Workshop

To make the smudgy background, you need a Stamping Sponge and
an ink pad.  Dab the sponge in the ink, stamp off some ink, and then
lightly swoosh it down the center of the card front. Start out with very
little ink…because, you can always add more, but you can’t take it back!
I think we can all relate to that scenario..LOL! I would normally use a
Sponge Dauber for this (my personal favorite), but the Basic Black ink
was drying too fast to get an even layer of color here, and It was leaving
little circles everywhere…so I went with the sponge and, got this look.

Don’t be afraid try different things during the process to see what works
for you!

The balloons are punched out (Balloon Bouquet punch) using the Urban
Underground Designer Series Paper Pack, I love this paper and I have
certainly got plenty of use out of this pack!  There may be more in my
future…wait, who am I kidding, MAY be more…there WILL be more!

It's Your Birthday! Matching masculine envelope, Inker's Workshop

Stamping not perfect… like the balloon above?
Leave it be, if the card or paper has more of a distressed look,
it will fit right in, no need to stress out about it!

On the envelope..
.the Washi Tape and greeting from the card are repeated on
the flap and, a balloon from the Balloon Adventures stamp
set mimics the paper on the card almost perfectly!

Enjoy!
Karen

Sending Big Hugs!

Don’t you just love sending big hugs out in the mail?
Well, it’s even better to get them…it truly is HAPPY MAIL!!

Sending Big Hugs! Inker's Workshop 2017

Sometimes the things you want the most out of the catalog are the last
in line to get used (what’s with that?!). Such is the case for these Large
Letters Framelits, they went onto my list the minute I saw them…they
went with something I already had, and I was very excited.. yet, when I
pulled them out, they were still firmly stuck to the tape in the package…
unused after all this time…so, what’s with that?

Sending Big Hugs! angle shot, Inker's Workshop 2017Doesn’t the word hugs really stand out with that colorful background?
In fact, it almost got lost in all that color, so it’s layered onto a piece of
Vellum Cardstock to soften the background so the word hugs can
be the star.

The Happy Celebrations set (Occasions Catalog) has some great
stamps that you can use to make backgrounds (like these circles).
Bermuda Bay, and Marina Mist were used here, but just change
them out for any color and get great results!

Time To Fess Up!…
What’s the one thing you ordered from the catty…
that you just had to have, but you haven’t used it yet?

Get out those unused items and start sending big hugs today!

Enjoy!
Karen

Sending Big Hugs!

Sharing In Your Sorrow

Sharing in your sorrow. Sympathy cards are never an easy
thing to make, or send out, but sometimes life hands us the
unexpected, so it’s nice to have a few on hand.

Sharing In Your Sorrow. Sympathy card from Inker's Workshop 2017

This card actually started out as a thank you card, but somehow
this sentiment just sort of fit. It’s a bit quirky for a sympathy card,
but all the better, then one knows it truly is handmade!.

Sharing In Your Sorrow. details, gesso with fern. Inker's Workshop 2017

I smeared gesso onto a piece of designer paper
(Falling In Love Designer Series Paper), I tried using the
Whisper White Craft Ink pad, but I wanted more coverage
than I could get with that, so out came the gesso. After the
gesso dried, I stamped on it with the fern from the Butterfly
Basics set and finally got the contrast I was looking for.

The stamped piece behind the fern was created using the
Timeless Textures set, and the Sharing In Your Sorrow
sentiment comes from the Thoughts and Prayers set.

I tore some of the paper by hand and used three colors
of ink to sponge the edges…Crumb Cake, Early Espresso
and Elegant Eggplant.

The color of the paper, the gesso and the ink all came
together and has this sort of elegant, but artistic moody
thing going on…what do you think?

Until next time…
Karen

FYI: You may have noticed I have been away for a while, there’s a reason for that.
I have been battling with my internet and ,what I will call, computer gremlins!

Basically, I was unable to even log onto my blog or get my email!  Seems
there were some security updates going on which left my computer at risk…
yikes!!  Nothing to do with my blog or such, just settings on my laptop and I
was reluctant to log into anything until I knew things were secure!

I have found a temporary way around it so I can be getting things done,
while things are being fixed!  Hopefully, I will not have to be MIA again
because of it… these things scare the crap out of me!

Sharing In Your Sorrow

When I’m With You

When I’m with you, I can be myself.  When I’m with you, it’s okay to be silent, and
you will understand. When I’m with you, it feels like home, and I am at peace.

When I'm With You. Distressed everyday card. Inker's Workshop 2017

Aren’t real friends, the best friends?
Those who know the real you, and accept you anyway,
are such a blessing to have in life…my friends are the best!!

When I'm With You. Distressed details. Inker's Workshop 2017

This distressed piece started out as a full sized card.
After tearing a piece off, it still didn’t look right, so I cut it in half.
Now, the wide borders really make that center pop!

It can be a hard choice to tear up something or cut it in half when
you just spent a good chunk of time making it, but if you’re not
happy with it, or your idea is not working out, you probably won’t
use it anyway! Chances are you will try to finish it, but you will still
hate it because it doesn’t look like you wanted it to, so it will go
directly into file 13.

This is what opportunity looks like! This is the point where you
leave your comfort zone and see what can happen. If you were
going to toss it anyway, tear it up, color over it, or try something
new.  It may still end up in file 13, but you may end up with a
great piece of art. Either way, you have gained that experience.

Enjoy!
Karen

When I’m With You

The Pink Dragonfly!

The Pink Dragonfly…sounds like a secret code, or the femme fatale in a
delicious spy novel, doesn’t it?

The Pink Dragonfly! card on wood background. Inker's Workshop 2017

Well, it’s just a card… and it’s pretty obvious how it got it’s name.

This card was so much fun to make…
I love it when an idea presents itself and it turns into something great!

The Pink Dragonfly! inked grid paper ready for card. Inker's Workshop 2017

The Pink Dragonfly! inked background on grid paper. Inker's Workshop 2017

The background started out as the stamped off ink from my last card (see it here)
…just left overs on my grid paper.  It looked pretty good, so I added more splats
of ink, cut it up, sponged the edges and used it for this card…how fun is that!

The Pink Dragonfly! Dragonfly cut out of watercolor scrap. Inker's Workshop 2017

The Pink Dragonfly is cut out of a left over scrap of watercolor from my stash.

I put them together and layered them onto some Melon Mambo card
stock with a hint of Washi Tape showing out from underneath, and
the word hope cut out in black.

Psst… I am a cancer survivor of 27 years, and I think this
would be perfect for someone who needs a little hope. Do
you know someone who could use a little lift today?
