Mixed Blessings: Espresso Flower

Hey everyone!

Today I have a card that sort of chose me instead of the other way around!

We all look through the catalog and drool over the things we want to get (at least I do!).  I never once looked at this stamp and thought to myself, “I have to have this!”.  Not once!

While attending my first convention in SLC this past July, everyone in the room received a free stamp (Thanks, Stampin’ Up!).  Not everyone got the same stamp, and some of us traded amongst ourselves to get something different. I already had the stamp I was given, so I willingly traded with someone for one I didn’t have.

This is the stamp I ended up with, it’s called “Hey There Buds”. It’s on page 125 of the Annual Catalog (AC), and I probably passed it by 100 times or more while drooling over the other goodies I had my eye on!  It would have not made list of possible stamps to add to my collection. Nonetheless, it was mine.  After all of the trading settled down, I promptly put it in my bag and moved on to more exciting things, like more stamping :).

Upon getting home, I was unpacking all of my goodies, and out came “that” stamp.  Still, it didn’t excite me, it didn’t “talk” to me in any way. I was like…eh…whatever.  Normally, things call out my name and convince me to buy them at first glance. It’s like a voice in my head that says,”pick me! I love you!, take me home!” (just to name a few). You just know you could make something wonderful with it, if you just took it home! That just didn’t happen here. Nothing.

Since this stamp was a gift and it didn’t really “speak” to me in any way, I wasn’t really sure what I was going to do with it. So, I just put it on the shelf waiting for the moment of inspiration to hit!

Fast forward a few weeks later, and some much needed thank you cards provoked me to pull it off the shelf and give it a try.  I’m so glad I did!  What a cute stamp!

To my delight,I made some really great thank you cards using “that” stamp!  The one you see here today is about 4 1/8″ square with an envelope to match.  You could also stamp it on some cardstock and “fussy” cut out the flowers to layer on top of the buds. Use a dauber to add more than one color and get some great variation, or change the size of the card your using to get a different look. Lots of ideas out there to try!

While I wasn’t jumping with joy over this stamp at first, I’m certainly glad I have it now!  It sort of chose me, and forced me to look at it differently.  Almost like it was saying “Hey There Buds” look at me!  (I know, I know…corny).  So, I must tell you I have changed my mind about this cute little stamp. It’s great!   After all, isn’t that a woman’s prerogative…to change her mind!

Now, I have to wonder how many other great stamps have I pushed aside, abused and/or neglected because they weren’t considered eye candy!  Yikes!  The horror!

I will look into that ….immediately!

Enjoy!…Karen
