The SRC is an international group of Stampin’ Up! demonstrators that come together on the first and third Mondays of every month for a blog hop. Each artist will feature projects using the same stamp set, providing you with oodles of inspiration that will get you stamping!

This week we will feature the Beautiful You stamp set from the Annual Catalog!  If you get lost along the way, click on the banner above, it will take you to the main blog where you can see the master list …Happy Hopping!

Hey Stampers…are you ready for a fantastic hop?  I only have one project to share with you today, but it’s a dandy!  Check out how I changed a plain composition book into something special for my favorite writer!

Stamp Review Crew: Beautiful You! Inker's Workshop 2017 composition tablet cover

My daughter is a gifted writer (yes, I’m partial), but rarely finds time to just write for the joy of it …like she used to…you know before real life took over. Now she finds herself in the middle of a career change and she is feeling a twinge of anxiety about how things will turn out  Knowing that one of her favorite things in life is to listen to it rain while she writes, I thought this umbrella lady walking in the rain would be the perfect starting point for my project!

Stamp Review Crew: Beautiful You! Inker's Workshop 2017 embossing paste, dictionary pg, umbrella girl.

Here’s the beginning stages…umbrella lady is stamped in Basic Grey on Shimmering White card stock, I added wisps of color streaked across her to help show movement (I really just play and see what happens). More stamping with the Post Script stamp in the corners (she also loves to travel), and a dictionary page is torn and glued down.

Oh…I should mention that the Shimmering White was cut to size for the front cover of the composition book before starting the project.

This also shows the first layer of embossing paste.  After the first layer was dry, I added a bit more to cover areas that didn’t make me happy…like at the bottom around umbrella lady. Then a lot of drying time.

Ink up close!  I wanted drips to run down the front, instead I ended up with a more water colored look, so more of the writing from the dictionary page was covered up than I had planned on…it happens (got carried away with the  I also added the coffee stain stamp from the Timeless Textures stamp set in Rich Razzleberry to resemble the bottom of a wine glass. More distressing in black ink with Black Twine and Vintage Crochet Trim in black along the edge adds detail.

Umbrella lady…I stamped her in Basic Grey at the beginning, but she faded into the background too much…Watercolor Pencils to the rescue!  I traced over her with a black watercolor pencil, then added some scratch marks , and colored her dress a bit too, now she looks all wind blown and moody, don’t you think?  I inked up a separate umbrella and cut it out by hand to layer on top of the first one, I think it really stands out that way.

On the inside…pages from the Just Add Color Specialty Designer Series Paper resemble the old feather pens that were dipped in ink to write letters back in the day…she will love that since she has an inkwell and feather pen for a tattoo!  She can color these or write over the top of the design …whatever she wants.

When I was finished with the design, and all of the layers were dry, I used the Multipurpose Liquid Glue to adhere the piece to the front of the composition book. I used clips to hold it in place until it was dry, added the black crochet trim, and then let it sit for a few days before actually handling it.

Maybe with a nudge from a book that screams “write” in huge letters, my favorite author will find time for some ink therapy of her own and take a few minutes everyday to jot down a paragraph or two.  I tried to include several things she’s fond of to encourage her to pick it up and use it…I hope she likes…I had a blast making it!

Have A Fabulous Day!

Thanks for hopping sure to visit all the artists on the hop for some great inspiration!
