Copper Takes Flight!

Good Morning Stampers!

Here’s a fun, inky project for you today!
Copper embossing powder meets the Fluttering embossing folder…
and Copper Takes Flight!

Copper Takes Flight! Copper and butterflies! Inker's Workshop 2016

Most of you know I’m obsessed with butterflies and I have to curb my
enthusiasm now and then in order to share other content…well, today
is not that day!

Today’s card puts me right back in the barrel…it has butterflies and ink…
not to mention a distressed look to it, a triple whammy for this stamper!

Copper Takes Flight! distressed details. Inker's Workshop 2016
For this look…get out your Big Shot and dry emboss your card stock with
your embossing folder (Fluttering, item#139304), then use a VersaMark Pad
to ink up those butterflies…remember, we’re not looking for perfection here!

Lightly add ink to the raised images in some places and press a little
harder in others, that gives a more random appearance, and you don’t
want solid coverage when aiming for a distressed look.  Some ink may
adhere down in between the butterflies where you have pressed down on
the ink pad…that’s okay…you can fix that in the next step if you want to!

Apply the copper embossing powder (item#141636) and “flick” the card
stock to remove any excess. Before heat embossing it, check out how much
coverage you have on those butterflies!  Here’s where you can help create
the distressed look. If you think there is too much powder on the wings or
down in between, scrape some off (I use a dental instrument) to get the
look you’re after.

Now…use the Heat Tool and watch the magic happen…
this is where Copper Takes Flight!

Enjoy!
Karen

Okay…who else out there is a real weirdo and likes to
watch the embossing powder melt?
I never get tired of it…gets me every time!

White Sweater Box!

Hey Stampers!

What do you think of the Cable knit Dynamic Textured Impressions
Embossing Folder (page 13) in the Holiday Catty?

I have to tell you, I was on the fence about it… but WOW,
is it cool! It leaves a nice deep impression and looks a lot like the
real thing… it’s perfect for this White Sweater Box!

white-sweater-box-inkers-workshop-2016

How totally fun is this?!
You can leave it open, as done here… or close it up with the
ribbon wrapped from top to bottom instead. Either way, it’s a great
way to hand out some Christmas cheer this season!

white-sweater-box-and-clear-tiny-treat-box-inkers-workshop-2016

Here it’s paired with one of the Clear Tiny Treat Boxes (AC),
what a cute combo!

clear-tiny-treat-box-with-stitched-edge-ribbon-loaded-with-cinnamon-candies-inkers-workshop-2016

This little box is filled with cinnamon candies and tied with Real Red
Stitched Edge Ribbon…wouldn’t these look great lined up down the
center of your Christmas dinner table?!

Or, use them as the markers for your seating arrangement!
Add some name tags and place one at each place setting…then
each of your guests could take one home.

plain-white-sweater-box-no-embellishments-inkers-workshop-2016

The base for the White Sweater Box comes from the White Gift
Boxes on page 7 of the Holiday Catalog. They come with an
acetate sleeve, but it isn’t used for this project (it’s just too tight
of a fit with the extra layers on the outside of the box). They are
also food safe..you can place your cookies etc. right in the box!

The boxes are already made, just fold them into shape and
simply cut out Whisper White (thick) squares to fit the sides
and top (no bottom) of the box. These were cut just a sliver
past three inches, but you should measure your box to
be sure.

Run the cut squares through the Big Shot using the Cable Knit
folder and adhere them to the box (liquid glue was used here).

TIP: Make sure you leave a sliver of space where the back and
top meet, don’t smash the paper right up to the back edge. You
need a little room so the top can open and close properly.

white-sweater-box-inside-christmas-greeting-in-real-red-inkers-workshop-2016 Real Red really brings a pop of color to this box..so cheerful!

The Christmas greeting (Holly Jolly Layers) is stamped and cut
out separately… the finish on the box is a little slick so some of
the stamping may smear…just be aware.

I hate to be wasteful so I’m looking for a way to use the acetate
sleeve that came with the box. Maybe an ornament or even a
small box hanging inside of it.

How would you use it?
Shoot me an email and share your ideas…
when we share we learn!

 Enjoy!
Karen

Be Joyful!

Good Morning Inker’s!

How did you spend your Labor Day weekend? Outdoors…camping, biking,
maybe having a BBQ with friends and family, or … GASP…working?

I had a bit of a stay-cation at home myself. I got some crafting done (YAY!),
spent some time in my garden and just tried to breathe a little bit.

Be Joyful! Inker's Workshop. Uses Merriest Wishes and Santa's Sleigh Framelits Dies from Stampin' Up! 2016

Be Joyful…it’s a great greeting for this card with it’s big
curvy font…and the tree tucked in behind helps make a bold statement!

One of the things on my weekend to-do list was to try and come up with a
simple Christmas card that everyone could make stacks of that wouldn’t
take tons of time, but was still something special.  This card fits the bill…
don’t you agree?

Be Joyful! Inker's Workshop. uses Merriest Wishes and Santa's Sleigh Framelits Dies. Detail of sparkle. 2016

Those gold stars are cut from Glimmer Paper…and as we all know,
Glimmer Paper sheds!  We also know it’s full of static and sticks like
mad on almost anything…sometimes to the point of frustration!

Well, I don’t know how I did it, but this glittery stuff was everywhere!
So, I decided since I couldn’t keep it off the card, I would just add more.
Scratching the stars a tiny bit provided oodles of glitter, and a short
wisp of air blew most of it off, leaving the stubborn ones behind, I guess
there was just enough static for them to hang on…it certainly adds a
finishing touch to the tree. How long do you think it will stay on the
card?  Hmm…will it make it through the mail?

Stak of cut cards for my stash. 7 most used colors right now. Inker's Workshop 2016

One of the other things I got caught up on over the weekend was
my card stash! Here are 7 of my most used colors right now…
Basic Black, Whisper White (thick), Rich Razzleberry, Real Red,
Crumb Cake, Early Espresso and Cherry Cobbler…yummy colors!

If you only have 10 or 15 min.at a time for crafting, a stash of
ready-made goodies (especially embellishments) can really come in
handy! It can also be a great jumping off point for a project when
you’re wondering where your mojo went!

Enjoy!

Thoughtful Thank You!

Hey Stampers!

How many times have you told yourself you don’t need another stamp set?

One question to ask yourself when you are on the fence about a stamp you “must” have is “How many ways can I use this”?  Do you think about that when you make a crafting purchase?  I know I do! Often times if you can get more than one use out of a stamp set or bundle, it makes more sense to buy it, you get more bang for your buck!

Thoughtful Thank You! Inker's Workshop 2016

The Thoughtful Branches Bundle kept me on the fence for a couple weeks before I caved!

The font in this set is gorgeous, and addiction prevailed…it somehow jumped right into my shopping cart :).  Now that it’s finally in my hands, I wanted to see what I could come up with that didn’t include any of the trees from the set…the result is this Thoughtful Thank You! card. It’s quick & easy, with just enough ink to make it fun!

Thoughtful Thank You! Leaf with candy dot. Inker's Workshop 2016

These colors (Perfect Plum, Old Olive, Pumpkin Pie) help make those leaves pop, and
the background (You’ve Got This) gives it an offbeat feel instead of the usual woodsy look!

The Halloween NIght Enamel Dots from the Holiday Catalog (Sept.1) really dictate the colors used here. The fall colors on these dots really caught my eye…turns out they are the perfect accent for these colorful leaves!

Thoughtful Thank You! Thank You font from Thoughtful Branches stamp set. Inker's Workshop 2016

Here’s the reason I caved…
this font is one of the many reasons this set is so versatile!

Be inspired…
there are so many more ideas for this set/bundle…just type in
the name on Pinterest to see what all the fuss is about!

Enjoy!

P.S.  Thanks to all the well wishers out there!
I’ll be in therapy for about 6 more weeks, and we will see where to go from there.

so, please be patient while I get my mojo back!

Black & White Collage

Good Morning, Inker’s!

This card was supposed to be loaded with color and be right in your face, but sometimes the absence of color is the answer!

Black & White CollageThis black & white collage came about from a series of steps, which like a lot of my projects, started with samples that were already stamped, in this case the key and the door.

The background is inked (Basic Black Archival) with the off beat designs from In This World, with the door and key layered on top, and the greeting… from Layering Love, is heat embossed in white. Oh, and don’t forget those cute little hearts…they are part of the Mini Treat Bag Framelits.

Inker's Workshop...here's my stash. 8-9-16

Sometimes it’s easier to see how a stamp will fit into a project if you can judge the size of it, so
I stamp a lot of samples and keep them in my stash drawer, along with a supply of freshly cut framelits and thinlits (love those die cuts!)

When there’s time, I can pull out stamped images and and play, moving things around to see how they work (I basically goof off until something comes together), so if you don’t always have an idea for a card or project, get to work on some samples for your own stash so you can play around and get that mojo moving!

Enjoy!

Tuscan Vineyard Bottles

Good Morning, Inker’s!

Distressed furniture and peeling paint is a big part of my life, I’m instantly
drawn to it…I just love it! Distressing is also something that always catches
my eye when it comes to crafting…especially cards, boxes, gift wrapping…
and much more!

There’s a lot of clean & simple projects out there these days ( and I love
those too!), but sometimes an inky, distressed idea is just what we need
to stir things up…like this Tuscan Vineyard Bottles card I’m sharing today.

Tuscan Vineyard Bottles. Inker's Workshop 2016 - Copy

This great everyday card mixes both clean & distressed…there aren’t a ton of
layers, but the edges are torn and inked up. There’s just enough distressing to
evoke that old world feel…don’t you think?

Brown, green and purple are the perfect colors for this card, if they don’t say
vineyard, I don’t know what does!  A sponge dauber was used to color the
bottles with Perfect Plum and Crumb Cake (they were stamped in Early
Espresso). The olive branches are stamped in Always Artichoke and sponged
over in Old Olive, and the round label is stamped and colored in Perfect Plum.
This is one of the best color combos ever!

Tuscan Vineyard Bottles. Inker's Workshop 2016

The olive branch is carried over to the inside of the card…
but there’s still plenty of room for a great message!

Tuscan Vineyard Bottles envelope. Inker's Workshop 2016

Add some stamping to the outside of your envelope to spark the
interest of the person getting all that happy mail!

Enjoy!

Happy Birthday Cupcake!

Hey Stampers…I’m here!
I wish I could say I’ve been on a beach somewhere holding on to a cute
little drink with an umbrella in it, but, alas, I was not.  I’ve been down and out
with a bad hip and unable to stamp much for over two weeks!  That has to be
a record with no time in the craft room!

I missed sending out a few birthday greetings while watching all that terrible tv…
like this Happy Birthday Cupcake! card, it wasn’t even finished until yesterday,
which also happened to be my friends birthday…oops…good thing she’s a BFF!

Happy Bitthday, Cupcake!

This cupcake is so fun to make!

The three step stamping technique used here really makes it
come out totally yummy…just look at those layers!

Who else loves chocolate frosting on their cupcake?
I feel a baking session coming on.

Happy Birthday, Cupcake! inside of card. Inker's Workshop 2016On the inside, it’s just a toned down version of the cupcake, with the greeting
“Happy Birthday” used ticker tape style across the top and bottom.

It’s stamped on the same Whisper White card stock as the rest of the card, but
for some reason is keeps coming out looking grey in the photo. After several
attempts to fix it, I’ve decided it is what it is… but I still wanted you to see it so
here it is… just imagine it in clean white 🙂

Wait…maybe I should have just wiggled my nose and used a little magic
on it…hehe.

Happy Birthday, Cupcake! belly band design. Inker's Workshop 2016

The Melon Mambo belly band (she loves pink) helps keep this gate fold
card closed. TIP:Try keeping most of the embellishments on the band for
easy removal…I got carried away and added a few extra sequins
without thinking about that, but in this case it still works fine. Phew!

Happy Birthday, Cupcake! details, Inker's Workshop 2016

A closer look at those adorable curly cues from the Cupcake Cutout
Framelits…so fun!  They remind me of the white swirl on top of a
famous chocolate cupcake that was a childhood favorite. I always
peeled off the layer of frosting and ate it last…YUM!

Hope you enjoy this Happy Birthday Cupcake!…

Beachcombers!

Beach Combers! Card & envelope from Inker's Workshop 2016

Hey everyone…this is my very first Pals Blog Hop…so excited to join in!

Just look at these birds…aren’t they the cutest little Beachcombers?

I sat on the fence about this Wetlands set for quite a while…and I finally
caved. Turns out my timing was great, the new Serene Scenery Designer
Series Paper Pack has the perfect beach for these little guys to walk on!

Beach Combers! Card from Inker's Workshop 2016

The birds, and one set of reeds, are stamped in Black Archival ink… a
second set of reeds are stamped in Crumb Cake ink to add dimension.
It’s mounted with Stampin’ Dimensionals onto a layered card base of
Whisper White and Crumb Cake,

That’s it…that’s all the stamping there is on here…it’s all about the paper!

* Here’s a tip for perfect placement:
The Stamp-ma-jig works great for lining up your stamps right where
you want them!

Beach Combers! Envelope with Serene Scene Designer Series Paper Pack. Inker's Workshop 2016

Ahhhh…the envelope!

I didn’t put a greeting on the front of the card, I saved it for the flap of
the envelope. A good first impression, don’t you think? The greeting
from this set “Thinking Of You”, is perfect for so many occasions…and
this paper is the perfect backdrop!

Thanks for visiting!

To continue with the hop, please refer to the Blog Hop Line-up below.
We hope to see you on next month’s Pals Blog Hop!

I deleted the hop list…Google made me do it… Sorry everyone!

Thanks for hopping…
Have a fabulous day!

Classy Everyday Card!

Hey Everyone!

There’s no special occasion needed to send out this classy
everyday card to someone you know…the greeting says it all!

Classy Everyday Card. Uses Sunshine Wishes Thinlits, In This Worls stamp set & Fabulous Foil Designer Acetate. Inker's Workshop 2016

Most of the time, I enjoy making my own version of things, but
sometimes someone else provides the inspiration. This everyday
card was inspired by a piece from Lisa Pretto that I came across
on Pinterest. That simple card caught my eye and prompted me
to use the Fabulous Foil Designer Acetate that was just sitting
in my drawer…thanks for the inspiration, Lisa!

Classy Everyday Card inside greeting. Inker's Workshop 2016The quirky designs from the “In This World” stamp set (love that
butterfly!) may get your imagination going, but it also includes
some words that are a bit unusual…so, they are the perfect
unexpected touch for this classy everyday card, inside and out!

Designer Tip: Try adhering all the pieces to the acetate first,
using tiny amounts of glue, then let that dry. Once everything
has dried, you can turn the piece over and add glue behind
the design elements before adding your artwork to the card
base, this will help hide the glue under the acetate.

Enjoy!

Happiness & Hugs!

Sending someone happiness & hugs is always a good idea…
who doesn’t want a little extra happiness in their day?

Happiness & Hugs card with envelope. Inker's Workshop 2016

Sometimes you start out with an idea for a card or project, and
sometimes things just sort of evolve…that’s what makes this
hobby fun…the unexpected.  Whether it’s simple in nature, like
this card, or a more involved project, just playing around can
really boost your level of creativity!

 Happiness & Hugs...layers underneath. Inker's Workshop 2016The unexpected here is what’s underneath…If you’re the kind of
person who can’t bear to waste paper, you are probably familiar
with this trick!  Cutting out shapes from the layers underneath
can save paper and will be covered by the top piece of art, but
be careful, too many layers with cutouts can make for an uneven
card!

Scraps of Playful Palette DSP, and Basic Black card stock form
the bottom layers for this pretty black & white card. You can see
where the Pansy Punch was used to make some cut outs for
another project, and the upper right hand corner has a piece
missing.

Happiness & Hugs card in black & white. Inker's Workshop 2016

Use what you have to your advantage…the missing corner
actually works in my favor here, it helps create an offset look,
and the side panel is perfect for those rhinestones!

Best of all when you favorite someone gets this in the mail, they
will never know what’s going underneath, the will only see the
happiness & hugs their getting from you!

Happiness & Hugs back of envelope. Inker's Workshop 2016

The back flap of the envelope has another scrap of DSP
along with some of the same words.  It’s not my most
favorite envelope, but maybe it will spark some ideas
on what you can do with your own envelope!

What’s your favorite paper saving tip?

Enjoy!

Batch Of Butterflies!

Good Morning Inker’s!

For this Batch Of Butterflies, I decided to try a new trick for
an old technique…

Batch Of Butterflies card with embossed envelope from Inker's Workshop 2016

FYI… I’m not quite sure this is the correct name for this technique,
I see it is called by several names on Pinterest, but for today we’re
going with faux Letter Press Technique.

Normally for this ink technique, you would use an embossing folder,
a brayer, your ink and a Big Shot…but for today’s card, I replaced
the brayer with an ink pad and a spritzer…because I like it messy!

Batch Of Butterflies details. Inker's Workshop 2016Up close you can see that it’s not a perfectly even color, it looks like
watercolor (say whaaat??).  All of the spaces are not filled in, which
adds to the distressed look of the card. If you’re looking for a more
solid color, try using an Aqua Painter to fill in color or use a brayer
for more coverage.

To get this kind of look, open up your embossing folder and ink up the
“flat” side of the folder, putting the ink pad directly on the embossing
folder…spritz it with a little water. Carefully place your card stock inside
the embossing folder and run it through your Big Shot.

Batch Of Butterflies card from Inker's Workshop 2016

When you take it out, (watch for inky fingers) the butterflies will be white
(if you use white paper), and the background will be the color of ink you
chose to use. You can leave the butterflies white, or ink them up, like I
did here… using a Sponge Dauber and some Crumb Cake ink with a bit
of Early Espresso to top it off.

TIP: you will get two different looks depending on which side of
the embossing folder you ink up!

Don’t forget to add a little sumthin’ to the envelope!

The flap of the envelope is embossed and rubbed with ink
using a light touch and a Sponge Dauber.

Enjoy!
Karen

Just Breathe!

Hello Stampers!

Sometimes it’s important for us to remember to recharge our batteries,
to get out of our rut…and to Just Breathe!

Just Breathe! Card from Inker's Workshop using Stampin' Up! sets In This World, Touches Of Texture & Labeler Alphabet. InkersWorkshop.com 2016

That’s what inspired this card…the need for a little down time!

My husband and I are both busy people and don’t get out of town as often
as we would like, but since we are celebrating our wedding anniversary
this month, we decided we should do something. Nothing fancy, no big travel
plans, just a weekend getaway…and in this case, that meant road trip!

What a blast…we didn’t have a plan, we picked a starting point and just drove!
If one of us saw a road we had never been on, we took it, and we stopped at
some of those little places along the highway that most of us drive by every day,
never knowing what they are. There were some great places along the way that
we will visit again, and will probably use as a starting point for our next road trip!

Just Breathe! Details of card. From InkersWorkshop.com 2016

Are you in need of a little down time?

Do yourself a favor and get out from in front of your computer…
get outside, smell the flowers, listen to the birds sing, and chase butterflies!

Just Breathe! Card section from Inker's Workshop 2016.

This card may have started out as a way to remind myself I needed to get
away, but I know several people who could use that advice…so I’m going to
send this great little reminder out to one of them…a little nudge, if you will.

Maybe I’ll include something that they can use for their own starting point,
like show tickets, or dinner on me, something that is a short drive from their
normal routine, but a world away…because sometimes we all need to
Just Breathe!

Until next time…

Blue On Blue Flourish!

Hello peeps…
today’s PPA challenge is brought to you by the color blue!

Blue On Blue Flourish using Falling Flowers and Labeler Alphabet from Stampin' Up! Inker's Workshop 2016

A simple resist technique makes it easy to get the look of this
beautiful Blue On Blue Flourish!

Once the flourish (Falling Flowers) is heat embossed in white, a Sponge
Dauber is used to rub color over the entire card base with Pool Party ink.
A second layer of ink is lightly applied towards the center and blended
outward using Island Indigo ink. To finish it off…a baby wipe is used to
lightly rub over the embossed section to remove any extra ink to reveal
the white design underneath. This is an easy technique for a beginner
to master!

Blue On Blue Flourish! Using Falling Flowers and Labeler Alphabet from Stampin' Up! from Inker's Workshop 2016

Do you like the look of water spots on your background?

It’s easy to achieve… just “flick” a small amount of water over the paper
and let it dry to get the look you want. Keeping a Spritzer on hand works
great for this…lightly spray some water in the palm of your hand and use
your fingers to “flick” it over the design. FYI…It pays to practice a bit first…
you don’t want blobs of water ruining your beautiful works of art!

Now you’ve seen mine, it’s time to show me yours…
get on over to www.palspaperarts.com and share your
masterpiece…you may be the inspiration someone needs!

Have a fabulous day!

Denim & Suede

Hello Stampers…
Sometimes when you least expect it, a stamp set, (or two) can
spark your imagination and become an instant favorite!

Denim & Suede from Inker's Workshop. Uses the new Touches Of Texture, Country Livin', colors: Dapper Denim & Soft Suede www.inkersworkshop.com 2016Denim & Suede…it’s always fun when the unexpected happens,
don’t you think?

We all have our favorite “must haves” when we see a new catalog,
but there’s always those few stamp sets that we think, eh…I’m not
sure I would use that, am I right?

Well, for me one of those sets was Country Livin’. I had it on order
for a workshop where the hostess had asked for a Father’s Day project.
When the workshop was cancelled, I toyed with idea of removing from
the order, but at the last minute I decided to keep it.

When the order arrived and I opened my big box of goodies (you can
see my very first video of this over on my Facebook page…scary huh!),
I was surprised that this set was the first one to speak to me…pick me,
pick me it said…so I did, and the minute I inked up those boots the
whole project came to life in front of me…I love it when that happens!

Burlap Ribbon colored with Soft Suede ink. www.InkersWorkshop.com 2016 Denim & Suede boots close up. www.inkersworkshop.com 2016

Some of the reasons this card works are in the details.

The splatter (Touches Of Texture) is “stamped off” before making the
background, that way when you stamp the flower in full ink over the top,
it appears to have more depth.

The boots are inked in Soft Suede using an Aqua Painter, and by
coloring the straps blue, the boots come to life…and it pulls all the
denim elements together.

For added texture the new Burlap Ribbon is rubbed with Soft Suede ink
and allowed to peak out to the edge of the card, with rhinestones adding
a final touch to the boot and the flower

You’ve probably noticed that there is no greeting… it’s okay to have a
card without one, it leaves the possibilities wide open. So, go ahead,
just write on the inside…or add your greeting at a moments notice for
whatever occasion you choose.

Denim & Suede card envelope from Inker's Workshop.2016 On the envelope…Touches Of Texture in Dapper Denim…
it’s also runs up the side of the card, a great compliment to those boots!

So, just to be clear…
Am I the only crazy person who thinks stamps “speak” to me?
