When I’m With You

When I’m with you, I can be myself.  When I’m with you, it’s okay to be silent, and
you will understand. When I’m with you, it feels like home, and I am at peace.

When I'm With You. Distressed everyday card. Inker's Workshop 2017

Aren’t real friends, the best friends?
Those who know the real you, and accept you anyway,
are such a blessing to have in life…my friends are the best!!

When I'm With You. Distressed details. Inker's Workshop 2017

This distressed piece started out as a full sized card.
After tearing a piece off, it still didn’t look right, so I cut it in half.
Now, the wide borders really make that center pop!

It can be a hard choice to tear up something or cut it in half when
you just spent a good chunk of time making it, but if you’re not
happy with it, or your idea is not working out, you probably won’t
use it anyway! Chances are you will try to finish it, but you will still
hate it because it doesn’t look like you wanted it to, so it will go
directly into file 13.

This is what opportunity looks like! This is the point where you
leave your comfort zone and see what can happen. If you were
going to toss it anyway, tear it up, color over it, or try something
new.  It may still end up in file 13, but you may end up with a
great piece of art. Either way, you have gained that experience.

Enjoy!
Karen

When I’m With You

The Pink Dragonfly!

The Pink Dragonfly…sounds like a secret code, or the femme fatale in a
delicious spy novel, doesn’t it?

The Pink Dragonfly! card on wood background. Inker's Workshop 2017

Well, it’s just a card… and it’s pretty obvious how it got it’s name.

This card was so much fun to make…
I love it when an idea presents itself and it turns into something great!

The Pink Dragonfly! inked background on grid paper. Inker's Workshop 2017

The background started out as the stamped off ink from my last card (see it here)
…just left overs on my grid paper.  It looked pretty good, so I added more splats
of ink, cut it up, sponged the edges and used it for this card…how fun is that!

Distressed Butterfly Card!

Hey everyone!  I’ve been playing with some ink and came up with
this Distressed Butterfly Card!

Distressed Butterfly Card! Inker's Workshop 2017

I know, I know…butterflies again?
Yep…I love them, get used to it!

Distressed Butterfly Card! Coloring flowers with watercolor pencils. Inker's Workshop 2017

This card really came about because I wanted to use the new
Watercolor Pencils again!

Here’s how things got started. Since there are currently only
13 watercolor pencils, I decided to experiment with mixing the
colors. So, Early Espresso is used on all of the shadow lines,
Rich Razzleberry is on the petals, and Old Olive makes up
the leaves and stems. I didn’t use any water, these are all
colored with the pencils only.

Don’t worry about staying inside the lines…just have fun!

Distressed Butterfly Card! Finished flowers colored with Watercolor Pencils, no water. Inker's Workshop 2017

I think using the Early Espresso for the shadows really
worked with each of the other colors, and helped bring
it all together…but I can hardly wait for more colors!

The finished flowers, and most of the card, are rubbed
over using Crumb Cake ink and a Sponge Dauber. That
lends to the overall distressed look I decided to go with.

The butterflies and the ink splats were only added after
I decided the flowers looked kind of old fashioned. Just
goes to show you that not every idea ends up where
it started!

Have you tried the new Watercolor Pencils
from Stampin’ Up! ?

I hope you enjoyed today’s
Distressed Butterfly Card!

Distressed Butterfly Card!

One Single Hello!

Hey stampers! Just by sending out one single hello,
you can change someone’s day!

One Single Hello! Distressed Tuscan Vineyard card with purple grapes. Inker's Workshop 2017

This card is cased from the Annual Catalog (pg 95). I added a few
touches, like the background paper and some distressing, but kept
the over all idea intact. I was feeling a little stuck for an idea, and
decided to look through my catalog and see if inspiration would strike.
I came across this Tuscan Vineyard stamp set, (which I have only
used once) took one look at those grapes, and remembered that
they were the whole reason I bought the set to begin with!  I have a
friend who loves wine, and this one single hello will really brighten
her day!

Down to my last card!!
I have used every last card I’ve made, so I’m going to be working
on restocking my stash of cards.,and I’m going to encourage you
to do the same.

There is some sort of odd comfort level knowing that you have
a stash of cards at the ready for any occasion. You are not
rushed or pushed to make something that you throw together
at the last minute, so you can enjoy the process. At that point
stamping becomes more enjoyable to you… something just as
much for you as for the person receiving it…that’s what I call
Happy Mail x 2!.

Enjoy!

Inky Flower Friendship Card…And New Sale-A-Bration items!

CASE The Catty…Pals Blog Hop February 2017!

Welcome to the Pals Blog Hop for February 2017. We are thankful you stopped by to take a look at our 2017 Blog Hop monthly themes.  This month we are CASE’ing a project shown in a current Stampin’ Up! catalog. After all, with the Annual, Occasions and Sale-a-Bration catalogs available right now, there is much inspiration from which to choose. We hope you enjoy our creations.

You may just be starting the Blog Hop or may have come from the previous link from the Line-up on the Pals Blog Hop listing shown below.  The full lineup will help you move along from blog to blog so you may see all the projects.

Hey Inker’s…how many of you would like to give your
guy a good Birthday Goose?

Birthday Goose! Wetlands watercolor card, masculine birthday. Inker's Workshop 2017

Since we could choose anything from any of any of the catalogs to case,
I decided on this great masculine birthday card!  I never have enough
masculine cards on hand, and this let me work on my watercolor skills,
so I got a twofer here!

What guy wouldn’t want a good birthday goose?

Here are my practice pieces, I am never sure how much water
to use, so I always stamp a few extras to get myself going and
get the feel of things before I work on my “real” project.

I used watercolor paper here, my first choice, but for a brighter
look to your project, you could use Shimmer Paper.

To get the layers of watercolor, I added ink, let it dry, and then
added more until I got the look I was after…well, sort of…lol!
I used an Aqua Painter, but you can use a Blender Pen and
get great results…give it a try!

I just love a good birthday goose…don’t you?

 Thanks for visiting.

Card & Candy Combo!

Hey Stampers!
Today’s Card & Candy Combo is the perfect project
if you are still looking for some Valentine’s Day inspiration!

Card & Candy Combo! Valentine 2017 Inker's Workshop

Making this bag wasn’t even in my head, until I cut the heart out!

Shoot… I should have called this post EAT YOUR HEART OUT
instead! Get it? Just a random thought going through my head..
squirrel!

Anyway…I had already cut a four inch strip off the 12 X12 sheet
(Urban Underground) and was just going to make a quick cut for
the card, but when I started to put the paper away, I was holding
it end to end, and got the idea for this bag…proof that inspiration
can strike at any time!

Card & Candy Combo! Card with chevron heart. Valentine 2017 Inker's Workshop

This card & candy combo is all about the framelits & thinlits!

The card is super easy to put together using Multi-purpose glue
and Stampin’ Dimensionals, there’s not even a stamp in sight!

I must be sick or something…I rarely make a project without
inking up something…mostly my fingers!

Card & Candy Combo! Bag with red foil wrapped candy. Valentine 2017 Inker's Workshop
The clear bag inside holding the candy is actually a
clear envelope…more on that in a minute.

For the outer shell with the heart, cut a strip of paper
measuring 4″ X 12″.  Place your heart shaped framelit
about 2″ from the top, leaving room for the topper and
words, etc. Cut out the framelit, using the heart shape
for the card.

Score the sheet 5″ from each end, and fold. That leaves a 2″
space at the bottom for the candy.

Card & Candy Combo! Ba with glue dot on bottom Valentine 2017 Inker's WorkshopCard & Candy Combo! Bag standing with bottom folded under. Valentine 2017 Inker's Workshop
There was a mad search in my craft room for a gusseted bag
to use for the candy, I have all the sizes of bags…somewhere!
Do you think I could find them, nope!  So, necessity is the
mother of invention here!

I had plenty of clear envelopes, so, I added glue dots to the
bottom corners of the envelope and folded them back towards
the center of the bag. This creates a wider bottom that’s flat,
which helps make room for the candy, where the gusset would
normally be. Since the candy is already wrapped, there is no
worry using a clear envelope.

Fold in the sides of the envelope, and move the candy
around to fit into the space, using a staple to hold it in
place. Fold up the front with the heart, and add a staple
at each end and in the middle to further hold the bag
of candy…candy is heavy.

TIP: If you find the bottom is sagging from the weight of the
candy, cut a piece of card stock 2″ X 4″ and add it to the
bottom center. I added a piece of black to the bottom of mine.

Now, for all the goodies…add a topper, the words, and arrows,
wrap linen thread around the topper, and give the card some
more love with a little red heart and some rhinestones!

Happy Crafting!
Karen

Valentine Gift Box! In white and gold using the So Detailed Thinlits. Inker's Workshop 2017

Who says everything for Valentine’s has to be red?

This adorable box can hold a variety of trinkets, and when the gift is
gone, it can help light up your table! It would look great nestled
among a grouping of white candles…just right for a romantic dinner!

It’s also just right for this week’s theme challenge over at the
Global Design Project!

I always love looking at all the talented stampers who participate
in challenges. Sometimes, the things they come up with just
makes my jaw drop!

This week the theme challenge is 3D OR OFF THE PAGE…no cards!
See some great ideas and be inspired, or maybe add an entry of your
own… c’mon, you know you want to!  #GDP071

Use one of the smaller pieces from the Window Box Thinlits
Dies to cut out designs around the entire box, and let the
light really shine through!

There is just enough room inside this Valentine Gift Box for
one of those battery operated tea lights. They come in a pack
of six, hmm…maybe you could make six boxes for your table?!

Here’s to a Happy Valentine’s Day!

Valentine Gift Box!

Best Guy Ever!

Hey, Ladies… do you think you have the Best Guy Ever?

Well, it’s time for you to let them know!

Best Guy Ever! Masculine card with Urban Underground DSP. Inker's Workshop 2017

Making a good “man” card can sometimes be an exercise in frustration
for some of us. So today, I’m sharing a card that any of us can get done
with some paper cutting and a single stamp!

Ready….here we go…

Cut two pieces, each one measuring 3 3/4″ X 5″.

Using the Stampin’ Trimmer, take one of the pieces and
position opposite corners along the cutting line of the trimmer.

There is a groove that the cutting blade runs down, each corner
should be centered over that cutting tract for this to work.

Cut from corner to corner, so it looks like this.

Use a piece of Post It Note tape to hold the
two cut pieces together. Turn the piece and
cut from corner to corner again.

Your finished cuts should look like this.

Take the two side pieces from the cuttings above,
and adhere them to the other 3 3/4″ X 5″ piece.

Best Guy Ever! Inker's Workshop 2017

Layer that piece onto a silver sheet that’s cut to
3 7/8″ X 5 1/8″.  Once the that’s done, place Stampin’
Dimensionals on the back of the silver sheet and layer
it onto a black card base.

For the greeting, cut a piece of black card stock to measure
1 3/4″ X 2 3/8″. Using the Best Guy Ever stamp, from the
Suite Sentiments set, stamp the greeting with a VersaMark
ink pad, and heat emboss it in silver.

Using Stampin’ Dimensionals, layer the embossed greeting
onto a 2″ X 2 5/8″ piece of silver, and then center that entire
piece onto the card base.

Best Guy Ever! Masculine card with Urban Underground DSP. Inker's Workshop 2017

Finally…add some some bling!
Choose one of the 3 designs from the Urban Underground
Embellishments to add a little sumthin’. I chose the screws,
but there are also stars and bolts, perfect for this “man” card!

What makes your guy the Best Guy Ever?

 Happy Stamping!
Karen

Designer Series Paper for today’s card. You can view the

Best Guy Ever!

Big Bumble Bee Gift!

For most of us a Big Bumble Bee Gift would not conjure up visions
of something we want to get our hands on, in fact, for some of us,
the whole bumble bee thing could send us into a frenzy!

Big Bumble Bee Gift! Includes Burt's Bees cuticle cream. Inker's Workshop 2017Not to worry…these bumble bees are from the Dragonfly Dreams
Bundle, and they are the perfect backdrop for this small gift of
Lemon Cuticle Cream from Burt’s Bees…something you definitely
want to get your hands on!

Crushed Curry and an Aqua Painter were used to create the
watercolor background, and it was added to a Basic Black card
base. The bees are also cut out in Basic Black, with the flowers
and ink spray stamped in Memento Ink…Tuxedo Black.

Remember learning how to use the masking technique?

It seems like that was years ago! Well, for whatever reason, it
popped into my head and I just had to give it a try on these flowers.
I have not done a project using masking in years… and I had
forgotten how simple it can be!   If you get the chance, give it a try
it might be an old one, but it’s still a good one!

The cuticle cream is attached to the outside of the card with a tiny
amount of Snail adhesive, just enough to keep it in place…and It’s
all put inside a clear envelope…so everyone can see it!  I’m going
to hand deliver this one, so I added a few strips of ribbon, just for
kicks.

What do you think about this Big Bumble Bee Gift… would you
want one get your hands on one of your own?

Happy Stamping!

Are you looking for a great “girly” card that isn’t over the top?

This card has a great font, both on the stamp, and on the background
paper (Neutrals Designer Series Paper Stack) and those roses are a
great place add a spot of color. That’s just enough “girly” to go around!

Big On Birhdays! Card using the new watercolor pencils from Stampin' Up! Inker's Workshop 2017

There’s only one thing to stamp here, and that makes for a quick
and easy card! Which also means you can make bunches of them!

Try stamping a stack of these ahead of time, then just color in the
flowers as needed!! You could even make yourself little kits to have
on hand. Cut and stamp the pieces like an assembly line and tuck
what you need for each card in it’s own envelope. Put that together
with some adhesive and watercolor pencils in a tote, and you are
ready to craft on the road!

These roses are colored in with the new Watercolor Pencils
in the Occasions Catalog (pg 24).  I used Real Red, Old Olive
and Bermuda Bay. It’s just the pencils, no water was added to
get this look. I do think maybe the Real Red pencil looks a little
too pink”ish” to be called Real Red, though.  For a simple
embellishment, some black sequins are combined with
rhinestones to add just a bit of bling!

The back of the envelope gets the same coloring treatment
using the Watercolor pencils…with an additional greeting!

With this card, being Big On Birthdays at your house
can be a whole lot easier this year!

Happy Stamping!
Karen

Purple Rose.Eeek!  I forgot about the ribbon!

It’s from the Sending Love Ribbon Combo Pack in the OC.
I like the skinny width, but it was white, so I held it down with
my tweezers and drug it over my black ink pad. It didn’t come
out as black as I would have liked, but I went with it anyway!

Big On Birthdays!

Dragonfly Dreams In Color!

Do you ever wonder if a Dragonfly Dreams In Color?
Probably not, but these are the type of things that go on in my head.
Just crazy, random thoughts, I’m like a squirrel that’s easily distracted!

Dragonfly Dreams In Color. Inker's Workshop 2017The background for this card is all Elegant Eggplant…squeezed out
onto lid of the ink pad, swished around with an Aqua Painter, and
left to dry.

Some spots have more water than others, there are blobs of ink that
didn’t get moved around a lot, and splatter from flicking the painter…
I love it!  Watercolor backgrounds like this one are so easy…messy,
but easy! I like making several of these at one time and saving them
for backgrounds etc. Even the “ugly” ones find a home, eventually!

Dragonfly Dreams In Color! details, Inker's Workshop 2017

The side of this card started out being black, with the idea that there
would be white writing going up the side of the card.  Well, that didn’t
happen!  After making a mess of things on some scraps, I decided
that I just didn’t have a stamp that matched the idea in my head. So,
I found this cute little loopy stamp in the Tin Of Cards set. Not the
original idea, but it fit up the side of the card. It did not, however, look
all that great in white. Out came the scraps and the daubers, and in
the end, it’s stamped in black on torn white card stock complete with
purple edges. I guess you just never know where things will end up!

The dragonfly is cut twice, once in black, once in white. When layered
together (stampin’ dimensionals) it gives almost a shadow appearance,
and helps separate the dragonfly from all the background color.

If a Dragonfly Dreams In Color, what color would it be?

Time To Browse!

Hey Everyone!

If you have been trying to place an order this morning, you may have noticed that the entire Stampin’ Up! website is down!  EEEK!  Apparently it must be a quite an issue, I was up at 2 a.m.ready to start the day off with an order, and the site has been down since I got on there this morning.

While we are all bummed that this is happening, (especially today), we must have patience while it gets worked out. Hopefully, a fix is just a short time away!

Time To Browse!  Until the site is up and running, you may want to just browse through the online version of the new catty, maybe there will be something you missed the first time around. That always happens to me, I get so excited to have the new catalog that I only see what jumps out at me right away!  When I slow down, there is always something wonderful I missed the first time, and I always get some great crafting ideas from all the artwork in the catty.

Hey Chick! SAB 2017. Wooden sign from Get Free Chickens In January card. Inker's Workshop

This great little sign is made from a strip of card stock that was stamped
with the Hardwood background stamp (AC) in Crumb Cake ink. The
greeting is from the Hey, Chick stamp set in the new SAB brochure. It’s
hung using linen thread and one large rhinestone that’s colored with a
black sharpie…to make it look like a nail head, of course. The edges are
inked in Crumb Cake using a sponge dauber… to add a little distressing.

That fabulous red dotted paper in the background…
it’s from the new Occasions Catalog!

It’s part of the “Sending Love Suite” on pg 15.  This new “Sending
Love Designer Series Paper Stack” is only 6 X 6, but it’s packed full
of great designs for Valentines Day or any other day of the year!

There’s just a leftover strip of the red dotted paper on the flap of
the envelope…I wanted to make it look like the legs of the chicken
were sticking out, but forgot what I was doing and glued it down…
my mind wanders!

I just noticed…I should have added some ink spots in the “dirt” to
make chicken scratch….that would have been so cute!
I told you my mind wanders…squirrel!!!

Get Free Chickens In January!

Happy New Year!

Hey Stampers…Happy New Year!
I hope you all had a Merry Christmas and are ready to start out
on a positive note for 2017!

Okay, fess up…how many of you have new year’s resolutions?

I don’t normally make new year’s resolutions, but this year I’m inclined to
set a goal of spending more time in my studio… just creating. I’m still a work
in progress when it comes to all this blogging and social media, and I spend
much more time trying to figure all that out than I do stamping! So, for me,
a Happy New Year will include a lot more creative time!

What do you think of these stars?
I am trying to cut down on the amount of coffee I drink, or should I say the
amount of creamer I consume, (I am so addicted to flavored coffee creamers).
I used to drink no coffee, only tea, until those flavors came along, I can’t drink
coffee black, yuck…who does that?

Anyway, there’s much more tea drinking around here lately, and that means
tea bags!  Tea bags make great additions to your artwork. Just take them
apart, rinse them off and let them dry out. They have great patterns on them
and can be used for so many artsy things…like making these stars.

Happy New Year! 2017 Inker's Workshop

Used tea bags were glued down onto some Whisper White Thick card
stock. Once dry, they were run through the Big Shot using the Stars
Framelits.  I did do a small amount of stamping on them with the spatter
stamp in the Painter’s Palette set, I wanted to pull in a little of the
Early Espresso color from the background.

It’s all brought together by the color gold. Gold embossing, gold foil
sheets, gold metallic thread, and gold stars.

To all of you who follow me here, I say THANK YOU!
2016 was another big learning curve for me and I am grateful to all
of you for hanging in there with me!

Here’s to a creative and Happy New Year!
