It’s A Winter Thing!

It’s a winter thing, just like Christmas… the snow always comes around even if
you are not ready! Out come the shovels and snow blowers, and this time of year,
the crazy shopping frenzy that accompanies the days after Thanksgiving!

It's A Winter Thing! Inker's Workshop 2016

While others are out looking for the latest and greatest deals (and maybe being trampled),
I’m busy making cards and gifts in my “studio”…happy to be at home satisfying my creative
side. I know that every card and gift I give will have my “personal” touch added to it. Be it
a card, tag or an entire gift that is handmade… it makes people all warm & fuzzy to
receive something made by someone they care about!

Do your cards have that “personal” touch?
Would someone know it came from you just by looking at it?

It's A Winter Thing! Inker's Workshop 2016Today’s card is made with Shimmering White card stock. It’s washed with color
using an Aqua Painter and Pool Party ink (although it looks grey here). After
it was dry, water was “flicked” over the top to create droplets here and there.

It doesn’t take much time to create a background like this one (even less if you
use the heat gun to dry it). Then you simply stamp and heat emboss your image
and layer the piece using some Stampin’ Dimensionals (a must have for me!)

You still have time to get a bunch of handmade goodies done in time for
Christmas!

Enjoy!
Karen

Paper, Stamps & Ink!

It’s time for this year’s Online Extravaganza!!!

A Joyful Christmas!

Hello Everyone, I hope this season brings us all A Joyful Christmas!

I know Thanksgiving isn’t even here yet, but for those of us making a lot of our Christmas
goodies, including decorations as well as handmade cards, we have already been at it for
a while. Getting ready for the upcoming party season, some of us will have our Christmas
trees up for Thanksgiving (I’m not that organized this year) in order to be ready for the first
week of December… when the festivities really get going.

Don’t worry..if you don’t already have a stack of Christmas cards made for those on your
list, you still have a window of opportunity to work on it!

A Joyful Christmas! Red plaid Christmas card. Inker's Workshop 2016

This paper (Warmth & Cheer) is totally drool worthy…plaids are always so
warm & cozy!
*******************************************

A Joyful Christmas! Gold embellishments. Inker's Workshop 2016

Cherry Cobbler (my fav) and Basic Black are a striking anytime, but when you add
gold to the mix, it’s an unbeatable combination!  Here… the gold embossing, Gold
Metallic Thread, and gold sequins all add to the finished look.
******************************

A Joyful Christmas! Stitched Shapes Framelits. Inker's Workshop 2016

This card shows off  the new Stitched Shapes Framelits Dies that Stampin’ Up!
released earlier this month.  The largest square was used to make the rectangle
shape for the greeting, it takes a few tries to get it right, but it’s totally worth it …I
a skeptic,so I had to try it..and it works! Love the stitching!!!

I hope this gives you a few good ideas for your own cards!
Use pretty paper, add embellishments to a simple card for fantastic results, or try
something new. Whatever you choose, make it yourself this year, and make it
A Joyful Chirstmas!

it’s pure fun at both ends of the mailbox!

Enjoy!

Paper, Stamps & Ink!

Let’s all have
A Joyful Christmas!

Single Yellow Chair

Hey Everyone!
This very inky card with a single yellow chair was a blast to make!

Single Yellow Chair. Inker's Workshop 2016

Spare parts from all over my stamp studio came together in this one fun card…
all brought together by the colors of Fall. Doesn’t it feel all warm and fuzzy?

A full sheet (8 1/2 x 11) of inked paper was already made using Crushed Curry
ink and an Aqua Painter…it was just hanging around waiting to be used. It was
cut into a background piece and the chair was stamped and then cut (from the
same sheet) until it was just right.  Some Early Espresso Ink, and quite a bit of
water, were also added to give the background it’s unique look.

Single Yellow Chair-detail look. Inker's Workshop 2016.

Love the brick?  It comes from the Ghoulish Grunge stamp set. It’s
colored with Cajun Craze Ink and an Aqua Painter, but it looked
really dark, so after it was dry, more water was added to “lift” some
of the color out.

Sponge Daubers (love these things) and ink were used around
all the edges, and they were used to give the leaves in the
background just a hint of extra color.

Sign me up…what a great place to sit!
What would you dream about if you were sitting in the
Single Yellow Chair?

Enjoy!

Christmas Pines Mini Gift Bag!

How about making your own Christmas Pines Mini Gift Bag…
to put those last minute goodies in?!

Christmas PInes Mini Gift Bag. Inker's Workshop 2016

Don’t these colors just ooze Christmas appeal?!

Nothing says Christmas like red & green. There are tons of beautiful colors
out there for decorating this time of year, and they are fantastic and fun, but
eventually, it always comes back to the red & green. Even small amounts
of this traditional color combo are enough to make you think of Christmas
anytime of the year!

Christmas Pines Mini Gift Bag details Inker's Workshop 2016

The Pretty Pines Thinlits Dies provide the great boughs of greenery, and the
pine cone for this mini gift bag, and the greeting comes from Christmas Pines
stamp set (you can get them as a bundle).

The final touch are those red jingle bells!  They are strung onto a piece of
gold twine (Baker’s Twine Trio Pack) and held in place with a Gold Binder Clamp.
FYI: You may want to leave the baker’s twine long enough to adhere it under the
banner or inside the bag so it doesn’t fall off every time you open the bag 🙂

christmas-pines-minig-gift-bag-inside-inkers-workshop-2016

Open up the Christmas Pines Mini Gift Bag and you can get an idea of what
to put inside. I found the pattern for the bag on Pinterest and put my own
spin on it. To make a similar gift bag of your own see the instructions from
Silvey here

Surely, someone on your list deserves a Christmas Pines Mini Gift Bag of
their very own…so get cracking!

Enjoy!

Always Be Thankful!

Hey Stampers!

I will always be thankful that I have hobbies, especially stamping!

In the past, I have enjoyed sewing, crochet, quilting and, back in the
day, I was crazy for macrame..do you remember that?  We used macrame
in the hair salon where I worked…we turned it into beautiful prom and
wedding styles… even a veil!!!

I think that it’s important to have some kind of creative outlet in your life,
and stamping can be so versatile. Whether you like it clean & simple or
down & dirty, stamping can be whatever you want it to be!

Always Be Thankful! Inker's Workshop 2016

Today I’m sharing something I CASED… from me!

That’s right, I made a quick & easy thank you card while I was recovering
(see Thoughtful Thank You here) and it occurred to me that it would be the
perfect thank you card for someone on my list. So, I decided to kick it up a
notch by adding some copper, and changing things around a bit.

What do you think…plain or kicked up a notch…what’s your favorite?

It went from three leaves to one, and from two layers to many, but still
has the same background. The biggest difference is the little extra
touches of burlap and copper that really take it to the next level!

Always Be Thankful…
Karen

Neutral Christmas Blessings

A bunch of Neutral Christmas Blessings would be a cinch to mail out
for the men on your list this year!

This is a simple card to create, and with just a pop of red from the jingle
bells, it’s the perfect masculine card for the holidays!

Neutral Chirstmas Blessings card. Inker's Workshop 2016

This layout may look familiar to you…I CASED it from the same
Stampin’ Up! video I made the Watercolor Lifting card from. You
can see both on a previous post here. I love it when the same
layout can look so different!!!

This card uses three different stamp sets, but by using only one color
of ink, it cuts down on the working time. Simply give each stamp it’s own
block, and you can stamp in assembly line fashion if you have a large
number of gents on your list !

Neutral Christmas Blessings card details, jingle bells. Inker's Workshop 2016

Aren’t these Mini Jingle Bells adorable!?!

They come as a mix of silver and red (item#142002), and they add
the perfect touch to this Neutral Christmas Blessings card!

FYI… You can’t see it very well, but the burlap ribbon and the greeting
are stapled onto the card using the Handheld Stapler (item#139083).
I’m sad to say that this great little gadget is being discontinued by
Stampin’ Up!…they will carry it while supplies last. If you already own the
stapler, you may want to stock up on the mini staples (item#135847)
that go with it  🙁

Enjoy!

Acorns A Plenty!

There are Acorns A Plenty around here…
first in a cable knit thank you card, and then copper acorns adorn some
really cute little treat boxes!

Acorns A Plenty! Cable knit thank you card. Inker's Workshop 2016Saying thank you is a big deal…and it’s even better when it’s handmade!

These goodies are being sent out to the people at the doctor’s office where
I went for my hip therapy three days a week for the last few months. They
always had a smile on their faces and a warm welcome for anyone coming
through the door…and I am truly grateful I found them!

Don’t you just love the look of the cable knit on this card?
Want to learn more about it?
Check out the video below from Stampin’ Up!

Acorns A Plenty! Distressed acorn. Inker's Workshop 2016

The leaves are colored with a sponge dauber and ink, but markers were
used on the stems and the baby acorn. Don’t the leaves look great with
this acorn? They are the leaves from the Lovely As A Tree stamp set,
which has been around for…like forever, and now you have an excuse to
get it out and use it with something new…yay!

To get the distressed look on the acorn, it’s a matter of bad stamping!
That’s right, just make sure you don’t ink up your stamp very well, or
maybe even remove a bit of ink. Here, the stamp didn’t take on the ink
and a big splotch was left open, so it made the perfect distressed acorn!
A happy accident!

Acorns A Plenty! Trio of treat boxes. Inker's Workshop 2016

Acorns A Plenty! A trio of treat boxes filled with nuts…

Acorns A Plenty! Single side view of acorn treat boxes. Inker's Workshop 2016

Copper embossed paper from the Petals & Paisleys Specialty
Designer Series Paper collection wrap around these cute little boxes,
making a nice treat for someone special…just tie them up with some
Burlap Ribbon for a finishing touch.

Enjoy!

Watercolor Lifting!

Hey Inkers!!!

I’m so glad to be back in the workshop!!!

I still have a few trips to the doc to take care of, but I’m standing/walking around without pain…Yippee!! I spent a lot of time in the car (80 miles one way), plus the appointment
time, which didn’t leave much time for crafting after adding in daily chores like supper
etc. (especially when you can’t stand for long periods of time).  But…one thing I did come
across was a new video from Stampin’ Up! showing the Watercolor Lifting Technique!

I always get excited about learning a new technique…don’t you?

I decided I would give this one a try to see how it worked, and then
share the results with all of you. I used the same technique and layout
that’s in the video below, but I substituted the stamp set with one I
already owned, in this case the Swirly Bird stamp set…one of my favs!

Congrats card using Watercolor Lift Technique. Swirly Bird stamp set. Inker's Workshop 2016

I used the Shimmering White Card Stock, it works great for watercolor
techniques like this one!

Inker's Workshop 2016. Watercolor Lifting Technique using Swirly Bird stamp set. Side view.

I took this side shot to show the shiny part, it gives you a better idea of the results.

FYI: The embossed part does remain it’s darker color after you go over it with the
additional second layer of watercolor.

Also.. it can be tough to see exactly where you are stamping, so I would suggest
covering the entire piece of card stock with the color when doing the first watercolor
layer. You can see in this sample that portions of the swirly look cut off, they are there,
but there isn’t enough color coverage in the first layer for them to show really well.  If
you look closely you can see the shine where they are embossed, it almost appears
grey to the eye.

Overall, this Watercolor Lifting Technique is fun & easy!
Give it a try…and then share with the rest of us!

Enjoy!
Karen

Copper Takes Flight!

Good Morning Stampers!

Here’s a fun, inky project for you today!
Copper embossing powder meets the Fluttering embossing folder…
and Copper Takes Flight!

Copper Takes Flight! Copper and butterflies! Inker's Workshop 2016

Most of you know I’m obsessed with butterflies and I have to curb my
enthusiasm now and then in order to share other content…well, today
is not that day!

Today’s card puts me right back in the barrel…it has butterflies and ink…
not to mention a distressed look to it, a triple whammy for this stamper!

Copper Takes Flight! distressed details. Inker's Workshop 2016
For this look…get out your Big Shot and dry emboss your card stock with
your embossing folder (Fluttering, item#139304), then use a VersaMark Pad
to ink up those butterflies…remember, we’re not looking for perfection here!

Lightly add ink to the raised images in some places and press a little
harder in others, that gives a more random appearance, and you don’t
want solid coverage when aiming for a distressed look.  Some ink may
adhere down in between the butterflies where you have pressed down on
the ink pad…that’s okay…you can fix that in the next step if you want to!

Apply the copper embossing powder (item#141636) and “flick” the card
stock to remove any excess. Before heat embossing it, check out how much
coverage you have on those butterflies!  Here’s where you can help create
the distressed look. If you think there is too much powder on the wings or
down in between, scrape some off (I use a dental instrument) to get the
look you’re after.

Now…use the Heat Tool and watch the magic happen…
this is where Copper Takes Flight!

Enjoy!
Karen

Okay…who else out there is a real weirdo and likes to
watch the embossing powder melt?
I never get tired of it…gets me every time!

White Sweater Box!

Hey Stampers!

What do you think of the Cable knit Dynamic Textured Impressions
Embossing Folder (page 13) in the Holiday Catty?

I have to tell you, I was on the fence about it… but WOW,
is it cool! It leaves a nice deep impression and looks a lot like the
real thing… it’s perfect for this White Sweater Box!

white-sweater-box-inkers-workshop-2016

How totally fun is this?!
You can leave it open, as done here… or close it up with the
ribbon wrapped from top to bottom instead. Either way, it’s a great
way to hand out some Christmas cheer this season!

white-sweater-box-and-clear-tiny-treat-box-inkers-workshop-2016

Here it’s paired with one of the Clear Tiny Treat Boxes (AC),
what a cute combo!

clear-tiny-treat-box-with-stitched-edge-ribbon-loaded-with-cinnamon-candies-inkers-workshop-2016

This little box is filled with cinnamon candies and tied with Real Red
Stitched Edge Ribbon…wouldn’t these look great lined up down the
center of your Christmas dinner table?!

Or, use them as the markers for your seating arrangement!
Add some name tags and place one at each place setting…then
each of your guests could take one home.

plain-white-sweater-box-no-embellishments-inkers-workshop-2016

The base for the White Sweater Box comes from the White Gift
Boxes on page 7 of the Holiday Catalog. They come with an
acetate sleeve, but it isn’t used for this project (it’s just too tight
of a fit with the extra layers on the outside of the box). They are
also food safe..you can place your cookies etc. right in the box!

The boxes are already made, just fold them into shape and
simply cut out Whisper White (thick) squares to fit the sides
and top (no bottom) of the box. These were cut just a sliver
past three inches, but you should measure your box to
be sure.

Run the cut squares through the Big Shot using the Cable Knit
folder and adhere them to the box (liquid glue was used here).

TIP: Make sure you leave a sliver of space where the back and
top meet, don’t smash the paper right up to the back edge. You
need a little room so the top can open and close properly.

white-sweater-box-inside-christmas-greeting-in-real-red-inkers-workshop-2016 Real Red really brings a pop of color to this box..so cheerful!

The Christmas greeting (Holly Jolly Layers) is stamped and cut
out separately… the finish on the box is a little slick so some of
the stamping may smear…just be aware.

I hate to be wasteful so I’m looking for a way to use the acetate
sleeve that came with the box. Maybe an ornament or even a
small box hanging inside of it.

How would you use it?
Shoot me an email and share your ideas…
when we share we learn!

 Enjoy!
Karen

Be Joyful!

Good Morning Inker’s!

How did you spend your Labor Day weekend? Outdoors…camping, biking,
maybe having a BBQ with friends and family, or … GASP…working?

I had a bit of a stay-cation at home myself. I got some crafting done (YAY!),
spent some time in my garden and just tried to breathe a little bit.

Be Joyful! Inker's Workshop. Uses Merriest Wishes and Santa's Sleigh Framelits Dies from Stampin' Up! 2016

Be Joyful…it’s a great greeting for this card with it’s big
curvy font…and the tree tucked in behind helps make a bold statement!

One of the things on my weekend to-do list was to try and come up with a
simple Christmas card that everyone could make stacks of that wouldn’t
take tons of time, but was still something special.  This card fits the bill…
don’t you agree?

Be Joyful! Inker's Workshop. uses Merriest Wishes and Santa's Sleigh Framelits Dies. Detail of sparkle. 2016

Those gold stars are cut from Glimmer Paper…and as we all know,
Glimmer Paper sheds!  We also know it’s full of static and sticks like
mad on almost anything…sometimes to the point of frustration!

Well, I don’t know how I did it, but this glittery stuff was everywhere!
So, I decided since I couldn’t keep it off the card, I would just add more.
Scratching the stars a tiny bit provided oodles of glitter, and a short
wisp of air blew most of it off, leaving the stubborn ones behind, I guess
there was just enough static for them to hang on…it certainly adds a
finishing touch to the tree. How long do you think it will stay on the
card?  Hmm…will it make it through the mail?

Stak of cut cards for my stash. 7 most used colors right now. Inker's Workshop 2016

One of the other things I got caught up on over the weekend was
my card stash! Here are 7 of my most used colors right now…
Basic Black, Whisper White (thick), Rich Razzleberry, Real Red,
Crumb Cake, Early Espresso and Cherry Cobbler…yummy colors!

If you only have 10 or 15 min.at a time for crafting, a stash of
ready-made goodies (especially embellishments) can really come in
handy! It can also be a great jumping off point for a project when
you’re wondering where your mojo went!

Enjoy!
